My Favorite Bookstores
- Kepler’s Books, Menlo Park, California. A beacon on the SF peninsula. Great author events and a maze of stacks I could lose myself in for several lifetimes.
- BookBuyers, Mountain View, California. My favorite used bookstore! Great place for finding out of print treasures. Just a few blocks from home, it’s my favorite place to wander on a summer evening.
- Books, Inc., Mountain View, California. Right next door to BookBuyers, it’s a great neighborhood bookstore with an interesting schedule of author events.
- Tattered Cover, Denver, Colorado. A fellow booklover took me here when I visited him several years ago. I carry my lunch in the little brown bag with handles with its logo.
- Twice Sold Tales, Seattle, Washington. Not one for puns, I couldn’t help but be charmed by this store’s twist on Hawthorne’s Twice Told Tales. Groovey little bookstore.
- Davis-Kidd Bookstore, Tennessee. Started by two social workers, the Davis-Kidd bookstore next to the University of TN campus in Knoxville was my version of heaven in my student days. Alas, it is no more, but three others survive in the state.
- Bloomsbury Books, Ashland, Oregon. On my annual trips to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland, I always seem to go home with more books that I had when I arrived. That is, if I can move the resident store cat who is usually lounging on the book I want.
